Organize Your Storefront with Product Categories
Posted by ASO Admin on 27 February 2020 08:15 AM

On your Weebly website, your public store is made up of three parts: your products (each is automatically placed on its own page), your categories/sub-categories (where your categories are sorted) and your Storefront Table of Contents (where the various categories are shown off for easy navigation).

For example, let's say you create an online bookstore. The products sold by that bookstore would be books, which you'd sort into categories like Fiction and Non-Fiction, as well as sub-categories like Mystery, Science Fiction, Romance, Biographies and Cooking. Then all the categories show up as a clickable Table of Contents on the Storefront page.

Here's a visual example of this theory, shown in the example of a clothing store...

Wanna know how to set it all up? We'll show you everything you need to know about categories. To begin organizing your Storefront with product categories:

  1. Log into Weebly and navigate to the website with the Storefront you want to organize

  2. Click Store, from the top-most menu

  3. Click Categories, on the left-hand sidebar

  4. Click the Add Category button in the top right corner of the page

  5. Give this new category a name in the Category Name text field

  6. On the right-hand side of the page in the Category Image area, upload an image that will serve as the image for the category (using the Upload Image button)

  7. Click Select Products to choose products that should be assigned to, or reside within, this category

Don't fret if you haven't added all the products you want to include in the category. You can always assign more products to a category at any time. Keep in mind, products can be assigned to multiple categories (a pair of socks, might be for instance, assigned to Men's and a Men's Socks categories).

  8. Tick the boxes next to the items in your product list you want to add to your new category

They will automatically appear in the Category Products list.

  9. On the right-hand side of the page, select your Display Options and check out the Advanced Options (click on the plus sign to drop it down)

  10. Click the Save Category button when you've made all the changes you desire

This new category will be added to your list of Categories in the Categories tab of your Store dashboard. You can always click on the category to use it or edit int in the future.

  11. Use the same Add Category button to continue adding however many categories you need

  12. Click and drag categories to change the order in which they're shown,  and drag a category under, and to the right, of another category to turn it into a sub-category of that category

Categories will show up in the Storefront Table of Contents, while the sub-categories only show up if the customer opens up the category to which the sub-category is connected.
