Create a Blog for Your Weebly Site
Posted by ASO Admin on 26 February 2020 06:09 AM

Not every website has a blog, and not every blog has it's own full-fledged website. It's up to you! If you want to create a blog for your site, and start blogging, you can do so really easily right from your Weebly dashboard.

To create a blog:

  1. Log into your Weebly site and make sure you're within the website you want to add the blog to (if you have more than one Weebly site)

  2. Click the Pages tab

  3. Click the Add Page button

  4. Choose to create a Standard page, a Blog page, a Store page or an external link page; for the purposes of this tutorial we'll create a blog page, so choose that option

A new blog page will be added to the list of pages in the left-hand sidebar and you'll be directed to the editor for that new page you just made
  5. In the Page Name field, give your blog a name

  6. Tick the 'Hide page in navigation' option to hid your blog page from your site's navigation menu

  7. Click the Save & Edit button at the bottom of the page to start adding content

A new blog is born! Some dummy content and a sidebar will exist on your new page, as per default. But you can easily change it all with a few quick clicks.

  8. Click the New Post button to create your very first blog post

  9. Add a title in the top-most blank text field, labeled 'Post Title...', that will function as your post's title

  10. In the content area below the title field, in order to create the actual content for your post, drag an Element from the left-hand sidebar over and drop it onto the page where you want it to reside
Note: for instance, if you want to put text in your post, drag the Text element over and drop it onto your blog post editing pane

Once you've added your content you can categorize your post, making it easier for visitors to find posts that cover the topic they're interested in. You don't HAVE to use them, and you can name them whatever you want. If you do use them, we recommend having less than twelve different categories, just to keep it simple and easily-navigable.

  11. Click the Post Options button in the bottom left-hand corner to see your category and comment options for this blog post

  12. Make any desired changes to your post in the Post Options screen

  13. When you're done editing your post click the Post button in the top right-hand corner of the page

This will make your post immediately available for visitors to see, as long as you've already published your website and it's not in draft form.

  14. To save your post as a draft instead of publishing it, click the Save button in the top right-hand corner of the page
Note: you can discard your draft by clicking the downward pointing arrow to the right of the Save and Post buttons and clicking Discard Draft. You can retrieve a draft post for editing by navigating to the Build tab and clicking the Drafts button near the bottom of the page.

Every new post you publish will appear at the very top of the page, pushing older posts further down. After you've added seven or eight posts to the page, older posts will be moved off the main page to accessible archive pages.
