One of the primary features of a WordPress website is the ability to create your own blog! You can learn how to create new pages in our handy Knowledgebase article here. So if you don't have any pages set up, go there first.

If you just created your WordPress blog you may not have any posts up yet—but don't worry! This tutorial will walk you through creating a new blog posts for your website blog.

To create a new blog post on your website blog:

  1. Log into your WordPress dashboard

  2. From the left-hand sidebar click Posts

  3. Click the Add New button near the top of the page

  4. Enter a title for your blog post in the top text box, labeled 'Enter title here'
Note: the title you add for your post will show up as your post title when it's published on your website.

  5. Enter your blog content in the WYSIWYG editing pane below the title

You can add pictures (use the Add Media button up top), text, links and more information. If you want to add HTML content, click the Text tab near the top right corner of the editing pane.

  6. Click the Save Draft button near the top right-hand side of the page to save your progress as you go

  7. Choose a category for your post from the section on the right side of the page, underneath the Publish section; you can place your posts in categories to help organize them or display them on your website via a category cloud widget or similar
Note: if you need to create a new category go ahead and do that via the Add New link

  8. Add a tag, or tags, to your post in the Tags section underneath Categories; tags help users find your post on your site AND via the internet on search engines like Google (they're kind of like keywords for your post)

Also, depending on the way your category and tags permalinks (URLs) look, tags could make a difference in the way the URLs look. If you are using a custom permalink structure, then your base prefix will look different. For instance, http://yoursite.com/category/food/ versus  http://yoursite.com/tag/food/.

9. Depending on your WordPress theme or blog settings there may be other post options available to you, which may include things like setting a featured image for the page, hiding the blog title from the top of the page or turning on or off social media sharing options; configure those as you prefer, referring to your themes notes on how to do so

  10. When you're ready to publish your post, click the Publish button near the top right-hand side of the page
