Pre-transfer Checklist

Before transferring your domain name, please be sure your domain meets the following requirements:

  • The domain is older than 60 days from its original registration date
  • The domain has not been transferred in the last 60 days
  • The domain's registrar lock is disabled
  • The WHOIS email contact is accessible

How to Transfer Your Domain

You always maintain complete control over your domain. As the legal registrant of the domain, this grants you the right to do what you want with the domain and you will always remain the registered owner. To begin transferring a domain over to ASO:

  1. Unlock your domain with your current Registrar or host, if you purchased it from a hosting company

  2. Disable any WHOIS privacy services and make sure your primary WHOIS contact information is up to date

  3. Once you confirm that the domain is unlocked and ready request an EPP code from your current registrar or host

  4. Begin purchasing your new hosting package, making sure to select the 'I want to transfer my domain to you' option

  5. Input your domain URL in the blank text field and click Continue
Note: if you would just like to order a transfer without hosting it can be done here.

  6. You will see the cost for the specific top level domain you requested to transfer; click Transfer Selected Domain to continue

  7. Continue with the steps to complete your purchase

  8. In the 'Configure Your Domains' step input the EPP code you received from your registrar or host and then click Update Cart

  9. Review your cart items and then continue to Billing

Psstt... don't forget that if you would just like to order a transfer without hosting it can be done here.

Once your transfer is successfully initiated you will receive an email from our registrar requesting your authorization for the transfer. Usually you get the email fairly immediately, but sometimes it can take a few hours. After you have approved the transfer usually it can take anywhere from 24 hours to a week for the transfer to complete. You will receive email confirmation once it's done.

Note: if you need your domain to point to a particular set of nameservers then set those at your current registrar BEFORE the transfer is started. If you do not, you will have to wait until the transfer process is complete to update them on our end.

Transfer Your Domain from ASO to Another Registrar or Host

  1. Log in to your Customer Area here: https://customers.asmallorange.com/clientarea.php

  2. Click My Domains, near the top, and then click Manage Domains next to the domain you'd like to transfer

  3. Navigate to the Registrar Lock tab

  4. Click the Disable Registrar Lock button

  5. Click the Management Tools tab and then click Get EPP Code from the ensuing dropdown

  6. Copy the code next to the text "The EPP Code for your domain is"

  7. If you have domain privacy enabled please email [email protected] to have it disabled, since you will not receive your authorization request if it's turned on

  8. Log in to your new registrar and initiate the transfer from their control panel

  9. Enter the EPP key information when requested

Wait. The process should start within a few hours and be fully completed within seven to ten days.

"To move your Domain from ASO to another Registrar or Host:" - Now this is a sign of a classy organization. A willingness to help me leave is what makes me want to stay.

We certainly try to do whatever we can to make sure our customers dig us, even if the time comes that they decide they want to be a customer somewhere else. :)

If my transfer expired before I could complete it, where do I enter the new EPP code to restart the process?

I set up a new domain name while signing up for a hosting plan with you guys. I would like to move a couple other domains to ASO (I like to keep everything in one place if possible) but I don't see any way to do that. Is this possible without a call to customer service?

Mike and Tyler: Yes, you can order JUST a domain transfer if you'd like. To do so, just use the following link and opt to transfer a domain here: https://customers.asmallorange.com/cart.php?a=add&domain=register

Hope that helps!
